A mini-split quoted for Garza County has to be sized for what the climate actually asks of it, not for what a catalog assumes. 106 severe weather events were recorded in Garza County, Texas between 2015 and 2024. At that rate, severe weather is part of the normal operating environment, and a contractor who ignores it during load calculation will undersize the equipment or place the outdoor unit where it absorbs punishment it was never rated for. Siting, refrigerant line routing, and mounting hardware are all local decisions here.

An attic interior with a flexible foil duct running along a plywood floor between wooden rafters, with loose fiberglass insulation at the eaves and two cardboard boxes at the far end.

Electrical panels in houses built to the standards of that era were sized for the loads of that era, and a mini-split draws more than what most of those panels were designed to handle. Half the homes in Garza County, Texas were built in 1973 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). A contractor quoting a mini-split here measures the existing service before pricing anything else, because the panel is where the job either stays straightforward or picks up additional scope. Ductwork is not in the picture with a mini-split, so the electrical is the one variable the age of the housing stock actually changes.

The Mini-split Components That Come With an HVAC Installation

Isometric cutaway illustration of a small house showing two wall-mounted indoor air conditioning units connected by refrigerant lines to an outdoor condenser unit on the ground outside.

The indoor air handler is the piece most homeowners notice first. It mounts high on a wall inside the room and delivers conditioned air directly into that space. The outdoor condenser unit sits outside the house, usually on a pad or bracket against an exterior wall, and houses the compressor and the coils that do the heavy work.

A refrigerant line set runs through a small hole in the wall and connects the two units, carrying refrigerant between them. A condensate drain line also runs from the indoor unit to route moisture out of the house, and a power cable ties the indoor and outdoor units together.

The drawing shows the general layout of these components, and a licensed contractor determines exactly how they are positioned and routed in your particular house.

Severe Weather Events in Garza County

Garza County weather puts real demands on heating and cooling equipment, and those demands shape what a system needs to handle over its life. A mini-split sized and installed for local conditions performs differently than one that was not.
