Step 1 of 3: Equipment

A contractor sizing or installing a mini-split in Kimble County works out what the system will be asked to carry year after year, and that calculation starts with what the area actually puts equipment through. 60 severe weather events were recorded in Kimble County, Texas between 2015 and 2024. At that rate, severe weather lands here often enough to notice but not often enough to be the standing condition a system is built around. What that means for a new install is that equipment selection and installation quality carry more of the long-term outcome than weather tolerance does. A contractor who gets those two things right is giving the system its best chance.

Electrical service is what decides how a mini-split installation goes in much of Kimble County's housing stock. Half the homes in Kimble County, Texas were built in 1981 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). A house built to that standard was wired for the loads common at the time, and a mini-split draws differently from what those panels were sized around. Ductwork is not a factor with a mini-split, but the electrical is, and a contractor will read the panel and the existing circuits before any other part of the job is priced.

The Mini-split Parts a Contractor Accounts for During HVAC Installation

Isometric illustration of a cutaway house showing two wall-mounted mini-split indoor units connected by line sets to a single outdoor condenser beside the exterior wall.

The indoor air handler mounts high on a wall inside the room you want conditioned. It draws room air across its coil and delivers treated air directly into that space. The outdoor unit sits on a pad or bracket outside the house and holds the compressor and the condenser coil.

A refrigerant line set runs through a small penetration in the wall to connect the two units, carrying refrigerant between them. A condensate drain line runs from the indoor unit to carry moisture away, and a dedicated electrical circuit feeds the outdoor unit from your panel.

The drawing shows the general layout of these components, and a licensed contractor determines exactly how each one applies to your home's specific configuration.
