Sizing a mini-split for a Coryell County home is a local question before it is a product question. 84 severe weather events were recorded in Coryell County, Texas between 2015 and 2024. At that rate, severe weather is a standing part of what any system here runs against, and a contractor accounts for it when choosing placement and specifying the line-set. But the weather load does not decide the install on its own. The quality of the refrigerant connections, how the unit is mounted, and whether the line penetrations are sealed correctly each shape how the system performs over years of use in this climate.

The electrical panel is where a mini-split installation in Coryell County gets decided, and it gets decided before any unit is chosen or priced. Half the homes in Coryell County, Texas were built in 1987 or earlier (2020-2024 ACS 5-year). Wiring and panels put in during that era were sized for the equipment of that era, and a new mini-split draws differently than what those panels were built around. A contractor has to read the panel first, and what they find there sets the scope.

The Parts of a Mini-Split System and What Gets Installed

Isometric illustration of a cutaway house with tiled roof showing two wall-mounted indoor mini-split units connected by line sets to an outdoor condenser beside the building.

The indoor air handler mounts high on a wall inside the room being conditioned. It is the unit a homeowner sees every day, and it is where conditioned air enters the living space. The outdoor condenser unit sits outside the house, typically on a pad or bracket, and houses the compressor and other mechanical components.

A refrigerant line set runs through a small penetration in the wall to connect the two units, carrying refrigerant between them. A condensate drain line runs from the indoor unit to the outside, removing moisture the air handler pulls from the air. A dedicated electrical circuit feeds the outdoor unit, and a control wire runs alongside the line set to carry signals between the two.

The drawing beside this text shows the general layout of these components, and a licensed contractor determines exactly how each one applies to your home.
